Update - 14 January 2019
The road closure scheduled for 14 January has been postponed due to the weather. The closure will take place when the weather clears and the works can be safely carried out.
Update - 11 January 2019
Mangaorongo Road will be closed at 7am from Monday 14 January for approximately two weeks (weather permitting) while major earthworks are being undertaken to enable the alignment of the new road.
Mangaorongo Road will be closed from its intersection with State Highway 3 to its intersection with Maihiihi/Rangiatea Roads.
Access will be granted to local residents and their associated business traffic, only. Access will be from the east and west but road users will no be permitted to pass through the construction site while earthworks are underway.
Please exercise extreme caution when entering the site from private driveways throughout Mangaorongo Road during the construction period.
Inframax Construction Ltd will be widening and upgrading Mangaorongo Road from State Highway 3 for approximately 7.1 kms.
The main works will commence on 15 October 2018 and continue through until April 2019.
Traffic will be under one lane stop/go operations during the day and open to two lanes outside hours of work.
The works will be completed in 2km sections to avoid excessive delays.
Inframax asks for drivers to allow an extra 5 minutes to get through the site while works are being carried out.
After the Christmas break the road will be closed for 1-2 weeks - 3km from the state highway. This is due to the road being lowered by approximately one metre. The closure is an important safety consideration as the existing width of the road is too narrow to allow for safe passage while the road works are going ahead with heavy machinery being at risk of potentially falling on passing cars should through access be allowed. More information will follow regarding this, closer to the time.
The proposed working hours will be from 6 am to 6 pm, Monday to Saturday.
There will be no work on statutory and public holidays.
Please exercise caution when coming into the site from your driveways during construction and look for one of the workers to direct you into and out of the sites.
All endeavours will be made to complete works as soon as possible and minimize any inconvenience to residents.
