Library Assistant (Part Time)

Otorohanga District Library is looking for another part-time Library Assistant to join our small, friendly team.

Your role will involve you relating to people of all ages from the community as you assist them with finding information, book selection, using computers and mobile devices, and participation in library programmes.

Ideally you will:

  • Enjoy a range of literature
  • Have an interest in working towards a qualification in information and library studies
  • Hold a minimum of NCEA Level 2
  • Have previous work experience in a library, customer service or educational environment.

Full training in library systems and procedures will be provided however, you must be a confident user of information technology (internet, email, mobile devices, social media etc).

Some experience or interest in delivering creative programmes for children or adults would be an advantage.

It is envisioned hours of work will be 18 per week, Monday - Thursday, 1.00pm - 4.30pm and Friday 9.00am - 1.00pm however this may be negotiated with the successful applicant. Additional on-call hours may also be available.

We can offer an informal work environment with opportunities for the successful applicant to contribute their individual skills and talents towards the growth and development of our library service.

  • Scheduling works with an appreciation for budgets and timeframes.
  • Infrastructure design, construction and maintenance.
  • Quality control and ensuring the job is done right first time.
  • Effectively interacting with a range of people and translating technical information in a user friendly way.

You will be involved with road maintenance programmes and capital works projects, relevant civil engineering qualifications are preferred although practical on the job ‘know-how’ will be highly regarded. You may have come from a contracting, consulting or local government background with a focus on ensuring work quality standards are met.

Working with an experienced and supportive Engineering Manager and team you will have the confidence to engage contractors and project manage to get the job done with time both in the office and out in the field generally between the hours of 8.00am – 5.00pm, Monday to Friday.
