Following extensive public consultation the Otorohanga Liquor Control Bylaw was amended in December 2013. In response to calls form the Community for greater control over the consumption of alcohol in public places it was decided to lengthen the period that the liquor ban was in force by a month.
Last Christmas was the first time that the liquor ban at Kawhia and Aotea had been extended by a month so as to run up to and include Waitangi Day. This year in preparation for the start of the Christmas holiday and the liquor ban being in force Council are distributing pamphlets at liquor outlets in the surrounding areas and have ordered new signage that will be posted around Kawhia and Aotea.
