Operative District Plan
The new second generation Otorohanga District Plan became 'operative' on 30 October 2014. The new District Plan replaces our first District Plan which was approved back in July 1999.
The process to approve a new District Plan is a lengthy operation. Council initially resolved to review the District Plan in 2006. This decision was followed by a round of public consultation in which we asked the residents of Otorohanga District what aspects of the current plan they thought were working well and those matters they wished to query and possibly change. The project to prepare a new plan commenced in earnest in 2007 when Reg Profitt was appointed as Policy Manager to oversee the development of a new plan. The Proposed District Plan was publically notified on 16 September 2010. Following the return of submissions and weeks of public hearings a Decisions Version Plan was notified in 6 March 2012. Appeals were then received which took almost 2 years to resolve. On 16 September 2014 Council approved the new plan as Operative from 30 October 2014.
