Council staff have located a large water leak on the Tihiroa water scheme that has put further strain on the water treatment plant, and we have been unable to produce water for several hours.
We ask that all residents and users on the scheme restrict their water use while staff carry out repairs and get the plant running again.
The Boil Water Notice is still in place and will be until further notice, please be aware you may notice some interruption in the water supply during this time.
If you have any queries please contact Mark Lewis (Services Manager) at Otorohanga District Council.
17.06.20
Residents whose properties are connected to the Tihiroa Rural Water Scheme are being asked to boil their water until further notice.
Unscheduled maintenance work is required at the Tihiroa Water Treatment Plant and Otorohanga District Council has had to turn off the sand filter process from 12.30pm today.
As a requirement under the Drinking Water Standards, a ‘Boil Water Notice’ must be issued as the water produced while the sand filter is non-operational is no longer compliant under the standards.
The water will continue to be chlorinated to treat any bacteria but residents may notice some discolouration of the water which is as a result of the sand filter not working.
The boil water notice will remain in place until further notice but we hope to have full operations restored within the next 7 days.
Residents and users on the Tihiroa water scheme need to boil their water for at least one minute
Council staff will provide regular updates when available, but should you have any questions please contact Mark Lewis (Services Manager) at Otorohanga District Council 07 873 4000
