WHAT HAS ODC DONE SO FAR AROUND SPEED MANAGEMENT?
Council’s Transportation Engineers have undertaken a technical assessment of the local road network as described in the below diagram. There are a variety of tools such as MegaMaps – an online tool that calculates safe and appropriate speeds across every road in New Zealand) that have been used to undertake this assessment, and importantly our local knowledge of these roads has also been relied upon.
ODC’s analysis to date has arrived at the following broad recommendations in terms of what would be safe and appropriate speeds on our local road network. However, these are just a starting point, and it is really important that we understand what stakeholders and the wider community think about using our local roads. Do they feel safe? Are some parts more dangerous than others? What other things do we need to factor in when considering the speed limits across the district?
