Dog Control

If you're a dog owner, here you'll find information relating to your responsibilities including compliance with the Dog Control Policy and Bylaw, dog registration, special dog ownership policy, impounding of dogs, microchip transponders, owner responsibilities and dog attacks.

Dogs in our care

If dogs are roaming they will be taken to the Ōtorohanga District Council dog pound. If your dog is missing, you can check this page to see if they are currently in our care.

Update Dog Registration Details

Have your contact details changed or do you want to add your email address? Or perhaps you need to update information about your dog? If so please let us know by filling in our online form. This form can also be used for informing us of deceased, sold or rehomed dogs.

Register a Dog

Use this online form to register a dog. The Dog Control Act 1996 requires that all dogs in New Zealand be initially registered by three months old, and annually after that by 30th June every year.

Working Dog Declaration

Use this online form to make a working dog declaration to Council. This form is to be completed to declare that your dog is a full time working dog kept solely or principally for the purpose in accordance with the Dog Control Act 1996.

Keeping more than one Dog

Approval is required to own more than one dog within the community boundaries of Ōtorohanga, Kāwhia and Aotea. Use this online form to complete a keeping more than one dog application.

Special Owner Classification Policy
