Regulatory opening and closing hours for 2024-2025
Inspections generally continue right up to a couple of days before Christmas – 22 December 2024
There will be regulatory staff in office until midday 24 December 2024. Skeleton staff will be back into office commencing Monday 6 January 2025.

Christmas Shutdown for Consent Applications
In accordance with the Building Act 2004, Building Control at the Ōtorohanga District Council will pause the working clock over the Christmas period from Friday 20 December 2024 to Friday 10 January 2025. Applications submitted after 5pm on Thursday 19 December 2024 will not be accepted for lodgement until 9am Monday 13 January 2025.
In accordance with the Resource Management Act 1991, Resource Management Planning at the Ōtorohanga District Council will pause the working clock over the Christmas period from Friday 20 December 2024 to Friday 10 January 2025. Applications submitted after 5pm on Thursday 19 December 2024 will not be accepted for lodgement until 9am Monday 13 January 2025.
By law, under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987, the Land Information Memorandum (LIM) processing clock stops between Friday 20 December 2024 and Friday 10 January 2024.
Building Act 2004
working day means any day except—
- (a) a Saturday, a Sunday, Waitangi Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Anzac Day, the Sovereign’s birthday, Te Rā Aro ki a Matariki/Matariki Observance Day, and Labour Day; and
- (ab) if Waitangi Day or Anzac Day falls on a Saturday or a Sunday, the following Monday; and
- (b) the day observed in the appropriate area as the anniversary of the province of which the area forms a part; and
- (c) a day in the period beginning on 20 December in any year and ending with the close of 10 January in the following year.
Resource Management Act 1991
working day means a day of the week other than—

- (b) if Waitangi Day or Anzac Day falls on a Saturday or a Sunday, the following Monday; and
- (c) a day in the period commencing on 20 December in any year and ending with 10 January in the following year.” The definition of working day within the RMA cannot be changed through regulations.
